SUMMIT AVIATION RECREATES PAINT SCHEME FOR OPERATION FLYING HEROES PROGRAM

Summit Aviation, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, announced today that it has rolled out a newly painted helicopter to reflect the original colors used during the Vietnam war.

 

The newly painted aircraft, an OH-6 Little Bird helicopter, is based in Carlisle, Pa. and it is the oldest operational aircraft of its kind. Summit changed its blue and white scheme to reflect the original colors used during the era of the Vietnam War. 

 

“Summit Aviation is honored to be able to support the ‘Operation Flying Heroes program,” said Retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel and Vice President of Summit Aviation Ed Scully.  “The program provides a vital service to our country’s veterans.”

 

Operation Flying Heroes currently provides flights for Iraq and Afghanistan Wounded Warriors.

 

“We wanted to pay our respect and appreciation to our Wounded Warrior veterans and volunteers who support our program,” said United States Army General (Retired) Richard A. Cody.  “Summit was able to recreate the Vietnam era paint scheme to our exact specifications and turn it around in three weeks. They did a superb job preserving the heritage of the Vietnam era OH-6 Cayuse.”

 

Operation Flying Heroes is in its fourth year of operation. It provides a full day of flying, coaching and mentoring in a military setting, to Iraq and Afghanistan Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed Military Medical Center. The Cadre is made up of retired combat Aviators CWO from Vietnam. Each Wounded Warrior gets a front seat flight with General Dick Cody in the OH-6 helicopter, as well as rides in an R-44 and a Cessna 206 aircraft.
