DAC International Inc. of Greenwich AeroGroup has deployed a revolutionary “in flight” BlackBerry® WiFi connectivity system called FliteNet. The system interfaces with aircraft equipped, or to be equipped with Iridium® or Magnastar® telephone systems.
FliteNet is a significant departure from traditional cabin wireless connectivity systems. It was designed to accommodate Wifi connectivity without having to mount components in an aircraft. FliteNet is a carry-on based system with MagnaStar® or Iridium® compatible software capable of retrieving and broadcasting e-mails to multiple BlackBerry® devices via WiFi. It essentially provides ground Blackberry® e-mail functionality above 10,000 feet. The company is well underway to add the iPhone to the capabilities of the system and other smartphones as justified by customer demand. iPhone functionality with MagnaStar interface will be offered as an up-grade to the current system through a simple software up-date which is scheduled for third quarter 2010. The FliteNet system for BlackBerry® on Magnastar® or Iridium® is currently priced at only $12,995.00 U.S. (price subject to change in the future).
Many systems are already in use and the feedback from operators has been excellent. Users appreciate the convenience of getting connected without having to deal with complex aircraft installations. The system is fully portable and can be transferred across aircraft equipped with Magnastar® or Iridium® making it flexible and reliable. Upgradability through software up-date also provides a cost effective and simple path for the system to stay up with future smartphone technology.
“We are excited by the potential of this new simple approach to cabin connectivity” said Cisco Hernandez, Vice President of Sales at DAC International. “The possibilities of this technology are significant and we look forward to leveraging this platform to efficiently expand cabin connectivity in the future” he added.
