ATLANTIC AERO EARNS FAA DIAMOND FOR MAINTENANCE TRAINING

Recognizing Atlantic Aero’s commitment to safety, the Federal Aviation Administration recently honored the Greensboro, N.C., facility with its 2013 Diamond Award of Excellence, the agency’s highest honor for aviation maintenance training.

Atlantic Aero, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, received the FAA corporate award because 100 percent of its 67 aviation maintenance technicians underwent specialized aircraft training during 2013 and earned individual awards as a result.

“Atlantic Aero is proud that the FAA has recognized our commitment to training that allows us to deliver the highest level of maintenance service,” said Jim Spinder, the company’s general manager. “With that training and technical expertise, our maintenance team provides the safety and reliability our customers expect from us.”

Based on the level of training they completed, nine Atlantic Aero technicians received Silver Awards and 58 earned Bronze Awards.

“The great thing about the Diamond Award is that it recognizes how Atlantic Aero and its technicians work together to create an environment where training and safety are deeply valued,” Spinder said. “Without our technicians’ hard work and dedication to excellence, we couldn’t have won this honor.”

The FAA started the awards in 1991 to improving safety by encouraging technicians and the companies they work for to participate in initial and recurring training programs. Atlantic Aero has won the Diamond Award numerous times over the years, and received gold awards as well, most recently in 2011.

The system also includes three separate voice lines for calls to be placed anywhere in the world. Connectivity is available in the air or on the ground.

Dealers currently signed include Greenwich AeroGroup’s Atlantic Aero in Greensboro, N.C.; Summit Aviation in Middletown, Del.; and Western Aircraft in Boise, Idaho.  Additional dealers include Banyan Air Service in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Spirit Avionics in Columbus, Ohio; and Temple Electronics in Houston, Texas. Lafrance added that the LiveAero system will be upgradeable to the Iridium NEXT system currently scheduled to be launched in years 2015 thru 2017.

TWO GREENWICH AEROGROUP COMPANIES EARN AS9110 CERTIFICATION

Greenwich AeroGroup announced today that Atlantic Aero in Greensboro, N.C., and Western Aircraft in Boise, Idaho, have both received AS9110 quality system certifications. Now all three Greenwich AeroGroup maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service centers are AS certified.

The internationally recognized AS9110 Standard focuses on MRO services and is an offshoot of the AS9100 Standard that addresses the aviation industry.

“We are extremely pleased with these achievements,” said Senior Vice President of Greenwich AeroGroup Jeff Mihalic. “With these certifications, now all of our MRO and manufacturing operations are AS9100 or AS9110 certified. This means that our quality systems and procedures meet the highest standards of the original equipment manufacturers and government customers.”

Greenwich’s Summit Aviation in Middletown, Del., was previously AS9100 certified. Summit provides MRO services for fixed and rotor wing operators and is also a heavy provider of modification and specialized mission services for many government entities. Summit and Atlantic Aero’s manufacturing operations were already certified in compliance with AS9100.

Company strengths noted during the recent Atlantic Aero and Western Aircraft audits included the concentration of transformational leadership, high levels of customer satisfaction, an effective and cohesive management team and the overall skill and motivation of the workforce.

“These certifications show our commitment to building a strong foundation of systems and procedures that ensure quality service to our customers each and every day,” said President and CEO of Greenwich AeroGroup Jim Ziegler. “Ensuring our customers receive the best quality products and services available is our highest priority.”

The addition of the product to Atlantic Aero’s repair license enables them to now complete maintenance activities.

Atlantic Aero provides 24/7 AOG service with mobile teams as well as airframe, engines, maintenance, avionics and interiors services for Beechcraft King Air, Bombardier Challenger and Learjet, Cessna Citation and Caravan, Daher-Socata, Dassault Falcon, Pilatus and Quest Aircraft.

GREENWICH AEROGROUP SECURES FAA APPROVAL FOR INSTALLATION OF IRIDIUM OPENPORT AERO

Greenwich AeroGroup, Inc. announced today that its ODA (Organization Designation Authorization) based at Atlantic Aero issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the installation of the Iridium OpenPort Aero system on the Bombardier Challenger 601-3A/3R, 604 and 605 models.

The mobile broadband system leverages Iridium’s worldwide network of satellites, allowing users to stay connected anywhere in the world including from the middle of the Pacific Ocean to the Poles via Wi-Fi to their Smartphone, tablet or laptop.

“OpenPort Aero significantly enhances how business and communication can be achieved in the air,” said Greenwich AeroGroup’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing Daniel Lafrance. “We are excited to be able to partner with LiveTV Satellite Systems to provide this innovative solution to both fixed wing and rotorcraft operators.”

Additional aircraft model STC’s are planned for next year for both fixed wing and rotorcraft.

IRIDIUM OPENPORT AERO SUCESSFULLY COMPLETES FIRST FLIGHT TEST

Greenwich AeroGroup, Inc. announced today that the first ever business aviation flight test for Iridium OpenPort AeroSM system breezed through without issue.

The Iridium OpenPort Aero service leverages Iridium’s worldwide network of satellites, allowing users to stay connected via Wi-Fi to their Smartphone, tablet or laptop from takeoff to landing and pole-to-pole anywhere in the world.  Iridium OpenPort Aero provides bi-directional speeds of up to 134kbps and features three independent phone lines, enabling simultaneous voice and data connectivity.

The groundbreaking hour long flight test took place Friday, October 26, on a Bombardier Challenger 604. The testing crew utilized four iPads and two smart phones to test speed levels, access web sites, download data, send email and texts and make phones calls over the Iridium network.

Aboard the flight were test engineers for LiveTV as well as the director of maintenance and chief pilot for the aircraft.  Technology partner LiveTV, has adapted the Iridium OpenPort® technology for use in a wide range of aeronautical platforms and applications.

“The pilot was downloading weather information onto his iPad,” said LiveTV Flight Engineer Chris Brown.  “To have this system installed for the first time, fly with it for the first time, and have it come off flawlessly - was very exciting.”

The first Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 for the Bombardier Challenger 601-3A/3R, 604 and 605 models.  Additional aircraft model STC’s are planned for next year.
